Blackpool boss Holloway: My future tied to Oyston

Blackpool boss Ian Holloway has launched a passionate defence of former chairman Karl Oyston.

Oyston has found himself embroiled in possible bankruptcy proceedings, says the Daily Mail.

Lancaster County Court confirmed a judge is considering bankruptcy papers involving the 43-year old, who stunned Blackpool by stepping down as chairman and director just 24 hours earlier.

Though Oyston is continuing as chief executive, anyone declared bankrupt would not, under Premier League rules, be allowed to act as chairman or director of any club.

As Blackpool's return to the top flight took another unexpected twist, Holloway launched an impassioned defence of Oyston and revealed he would consider quitting, should his boss ever walk away.

"The day he leaves, I will consider my future, because it is all about our relationship," he said. "Part of my contract is actually linked to him, and I am totally confident in the arrangement we have. I am absolutely certain that even if we lost 8-0 at Arsenal on Saturday, he would not suddenly start getting an itchy finger. He would not let the rest of the board sack me, because he knows the work I am doing here.

"There is a special clause in my agreement that means, if he ever does go, we can renegotiate the terms and make it fairer for me if I am sacked by whoever comes in.

"But I don't think this club will change at all, because Karl is absolutely crammed full of common sense and will continue to apply it. When you jump up to this level, you suddenly find clubs are spending vast amounts of money they haven't actually got. You are given money and you go crazy, but Karl won't do that. I don't want him to, either, because I still think there is value to be had out there in the transfer market."
