Blackpool attempt to frighten Wigan, Birmingham off Adam

Blackpool have slapped a £5 million price-tag on midfielder Charlie Adam.

The Daily Mail says Wigan and Birmingham head the queue of clubs ready to give his talents a Barclays Premier League stage, while Sunderland are also believed to be interested.

But Blackpool manager Ian Holloway has responded by placing a prohibitive price tag on him after seeing him emerge this season as one of the most dangerous attacking midfielders in the Coca Cola Championship.

Holloway went out of his way to convince Adam to join Blackpool on a permanent basis at the beginning of August after an impressive loan spell by the 24-year old last season.

He managed to talk Blackpool's board into raising a club record £500,000 fee but still had to be at his persuasive best to win over Adam after the twice-capped Scotland midfielder initially indicated a preference for trying to salvage a future at Rangers.

Holloway's faith soon proved well founded as Adam made an immediate impact as a dead-ball specialist with a knack of timing his runs into the area to perfection.
