Blackburn boost after Mokoena scan

Blackburn Rovers midfielder Aaron Mokoena has been boosted by the news that he did not suffer a broken leg in the 2-1 Carling Cup victory at Portsmouth.

The 26-year-old South African has been earmarked to fill in for the injured Robbie Savage, but feared a lengthy lay-off himself after being stretchered off during the first half at Fratton Park.

However, a relieved Rovers boss Mark Hughes told the club's official website: "He's okay thankfully.

"He obviously got a bang on his leg, he's has a plate in it from a previous injury and as he went back on to the field of play he felt a pain which probably frightened him more than anything.

"So obviously he came off, but I've seen him this morning and he's walking around.

"He's a little bit sore, but we'll see how he is tomorrow. However, he's obviously not as bad as we initially thought.

"He feels a lot better in himself and hopefully he'll settle down and he may well be an option for us."
