Despite gaining a point, Blackburn lost ground on the table and sunk into the relegation zone again after missing chances in the 0-0 draw with Everton at Ewood Park.
The contest provided few chances although both sides seemed to miss opportunities that they will surely regret.
Rovers boss Sam Allardyce definitely rued the draw, saying his side would now have to work extra hard to pull themselves out of the bottom three.
"We should have been well out of it by now but we are not so we just have to hold our nerve, use our experience and fight and scrap to the bitter end," he said.
"Some of the other results have not gone our way tonight and it does help if other teams are slipping up.
"We are back in the bottom three but on the positive side we have picked up another valuable point, we have only lost two matches in 10 games, and our only away defeat was at Manchester United.
"The one game we have in hand on most of the other teams could end up being critical."
