Birmingham City have moved to trump Benfica for Portsmouth wing-back Nadir Belhadj.
The Daily Mail says the clubs hope to take advantage of the south coast club's financial difficulties by trying to snare Belhadj for a bargain £3million.
Portsmouth are under pressure to pay off debts, including money they owe Lens for the £4m transfer of Belhadj 18 months ago.
Belhadj, who can play at left midfield or left back, has also attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Blackburn Rovers.
