Birmingham launching bid for Sunderland striker Jones

Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish is launching a bid for Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones.

The Daily Mail says McLeish has signalled his determination to make a splash in this transfer window by making a £9m offer for Sunderland striker Jones.

Birmingham City's manager McLeish has followed up offers for Celtic's Aiden McGeady and Liverpool's Ryan Babel by trying to persuade Trinidad and Tobago international Jones to move to St Andrew's.

Jones only signed a new four-and-a-half year contract 12 months ago but he has failed to suitably impress manager Steve Bruce who is willing to let him go for the right fee.
