The Sun says Birmingham want to sign the Ivory Coast international on-loan in January.
The injury-prone Ivorian cost £9million from PSG in 2004, but has failed to settle in Spain and desperate to get a move away.
PSV Eindhoven have also been in contact about Kone's situation this week.
