Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish will lead the club into Europe next season.
In all the celebrations of winning the Carling Cup, McLeish overlooked his fifth-bottom team had earned another prize - a place in next year's Europa League.
He said: "I forgot about that. In Scotland, you do not get into Europe with a League Cup victory.
"We're proud to win this and honoured to be competing in Europe."
