Manchester United are expected to deal in Carlos Tevez after Karim Benzema declared he will remain with Lyon for next season. The Manchester Evening News says Lyon striker Benzema was among Sir Alex Ferguson's top targets for the end of the season in a deal worth around £30m.
But the man dubbed the new Zinedine Zidane, insists he won't leave France for another 12 months at least.
While that is a blow to United, it is a boost for Tevez, who is still hoping to sort out his Old Trafford future.
With Real Madrid and Inter Milan keen to take Tevez off United's hands, the Premiership leaders are now likely to return to the negotiating table over a permanent deal for the Argentine.
United have paid out £6m for his services on a temporary basis and had agreed a further fee of around £26m to be signed this summer once personal terms have been agreed.
