Benitez: Why I chose Celta Vigo - and why Veiga must stay

Rafa Benitez is delighted taking charge of Celta Vigo.

Benitez was named new Celta coach last week and enjoyed his signing ceremony on Monday.

The former Real Madrid and Valencia coach said: "It is a pride to be the coach in the centennial year.

"I am not coming to give lessons at all. I come to learn, to listen and to help. I hope the fans and the club are happy and satisfied, and that the club grows a little more.

"The first thing that attracts me to come is the project. Being able to grow the team and be competitive. It is what a club like Celta deserves. Also the sports city project. I come up with the idea that I will be heard and helped."

Benitez also revealed: "I have had more than 20 offers, not only from Spain. There is a lot of money being offered today. After being in China and Italy, you think of being in a main league, close to the family and with a project that allows you to work and grow.

"This offer was the most attractive, and it is a pride to be able to go down in history as the coach of the club's Centennial."

The future of Gabri Veiga was raised and Benitez said: "We are talking about an important player for the club. I would be delighted if he continued with us for many years and continue to do so as he did last year. I want him to get better and stay with us. He is an important player for the team and I hope he will prove it for many more years."
