Liverpool made a move for Benfica midfielder Alfa Semedo, it has been revealed.

The Reds made an attempt to sign Semedo before he was eventually snapped up by Benfica while playing in Guinea.

A family source told Record: "The English club even sent us plane tickets twice, but we never did accept them.

"Alfa is a benfiquista."

Alfa, 20, joined Benfica three years ago after being spotted in a youth tournament.
