Bender eager to repay Borussia Dortmund faith after penning new contract

Sven Bender signed a new contract with Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old defensive midfielder has put pen to a deal that will see him remain at the Westfalenstadion until the summer of 2021.

Bender's last contract was set to expire in 2017 but he has now committed himself to Die Schwarz-Gelben who he joined from 1860 Munich in 2009.

"I want to thank Hans-Joachim Watzke, Michael Zorc and Thomas Tuchel for the trust they've placed in me," said the seven-time Germany international.

"We've concluded some very productive discussions and I'm extremely happy to be wearing the club's shirt in the future."

Regarding Bender, who has notched up over 200 appearances for Dortmund, chairman Watzke added: "Bender has undoubted athletic ability and is also an extremely important figure in the dressing room.

"I am personally very pleased that such a strong character and player has chosen to continue his career at BVB."
