AC Milan midfielder David Beckham says Italy is fast becoming Rooney-mad!

Beckham admits Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney's talent is appreciated beyond English shores.

He said: "Wayne is looked upon as a great player in Italy. All the Italian people care about is whether he's doing the right thing and scoring. They see him scoring and working hard. The Italian people and Milan fans love people who work hard.

"Without a doubt he's one of the best goalscorers in the world and I've always said that about him. If Wayne continues to do that, United will be more successful than they are already.

"I've seen him since he was a young lad. I played in his debut game for England and watched him score goals week in, week out at the highest level.

"I wouldn't like to see him do it again against us in a few weeks but I'd like it in the World Cup."
