Beating Arsenal not reason for Spurs stadium redevelopment – Levy

Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has dismissed claims that the club's stadium expansion plans is motivated by their desire to outdo Arsenal.

Work for the stadium redevelopment at White Hart Lane is well underway and Spurs hope to move into the renovated 61,000-capacity ground at the start of the 2018/19 Premier League campaign.

Tottenham's stadium, when completed, will be the biggest in London with a capacity of 61,000 - surpassing rivals Arsenal's Emirates Stadium by just 568 seats - but Spurs chief Levy has dismissed suggestions that the club were looking to get one up on their North London rivals with the specific seating capacity plan.

Levy told NBC: "That wasn't the sole driver [building a bigger stadium than Arsenal].

"The reason was simply that we have a season ticket waiting list of 58,000 people and had to find a solution.

"Clearly we went for the maximum we could."
