Arsenal are seeing the field for Montpellier striker Olivier Giroud begin to clear.

Among their rivals for Giroud's signature was Bayern Munich - until president Uli Hoeness ruled out moving for the forward.

He told RTL: "He was impressive when he played for France in the friendly against Germany. But he is a player who is very similar to Mario Gomez and we are looking for a striker to complement his style."
