Motherwell winger Jim O'Brien has signed a pre-contract agreement with Barnsley. Both clubs confirmed on their official websites that the 22-year-old would move to the Championship club in the summer.

The former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international, who is keen to represent native country Scotland, had attracted interest from several SPL clubs including Aberdeen and Hearts.

Motherwell had also offered O'Brien a new contract but he has chosen to further his career at Oakwell.
