Liverpool legend John Barnes sees no reason as to why the Reds should not be aiming at the Premier League title this season.

While Liverpool were expected to challenge for a top four finish this season, the Reds have enjoyed such a wonderful start that they are currently being considered as contenders to claim the Premier League title by many.

Some still believe that Liverpool will not be able to maintain their current form throughout the course of the campaign but club legend Barnes has urged his former side to go all out in their attempt to break their Premier League duck this season.

Barnes told talkSPORT when asked if Liverpool can claim the premiership: "Absolutely.

"At the start if the season I don't think they would have expected to be where they are, they were probably aiming [to challenge] next season.

"But considering they're one point off the top coming towards January, why not just have a go now? Why wait?

"They're a bit ahead of schedule, but let's do it now. Don't wait until the end of the season – this may be our opportunity."
