Barcelona defender Eric Abidal is making progress from his liver transplant.

The Barcelona defender underwent major surgery in April and has always been aware that the procedure could bring an end to his professional career.

"Abidal has responded positively to the medication and his body has recuperated well," Dr Juan Carlos Garcia Valdecasas told Sport.

"It is not impossible that he could continue to play professional football, but the most important thing is that Eric enjoys an excellent quality of life."
