Barcelona wing-back Cancelo 'disagrees' with Xavi on local press and 'mentality': I am more adult

Barcelona wing-back Juan Cancelo has contradicted coach Xavi at today's Champions League presser.

Ahead of facing Porto, Cancelo conceded the team was in a form slump.

He said, "The truth is that in the last few games we have not played as we wanted. Against Rayo we already had better feelings, but it wasn't a ten-man game either. We need to improve. We recover important players like Frenkie (De Jong). Now, three days later, we have a good game to gain confidence.

"We are not doing things as well as when I arrived. We have a very young team with a lot of quality and we are going to try to improve as a team and this situation.

"They (Porto) are a very strong team and we know they are aggressive. We expect a difficult game because they also have a lot at stake."

Asked if he agreed with Xavi that the criticism from the press affects the team, Cancelo said: "Personally, it doesn't affect me. I am more adult. It is normal for it to affect the youngest. This is Barça and you have to know how to deal with pressure."

The on-loan Manchester City defender was then asked if he agreed with Xavi that the team "lacks mentality".

"I don't think we lack a winning mentality. I have always seen Barça win. We have a young team and maybe they don't have my experience or (Ilkay) Gündogan's, but this is getting better. Football allows you to improve every three days and that is what we will try to achieve tomorrow."
