Barcelona striker Griezmann cuts Huawei ties over Uighur abuse

Barcelona striker Antoine Griezmann has ended his association with China's Huawei over the oppression of the Uighur population in the country.

Huawei began their sponsorship with the Barcelona forward shortly before the 2018 World Cup, which was won by France, and during the subsequent years the Frenchman has participated in different advertising campaigns for the company's products.

"Following strong suspicions that Huawei could have contributed to the development of a 'Uighur alert' through a facial recognition program, I announce that I am immediately ending my collaboration with this company," Griezmann wrote on his Instagram account.

"I take this chance to invite Huawei to not just deny these accusations but to take concrete actions as soon as possible to condemn this mass repression, and to use its influence to contribute to the respect of human rights in society."
