Barcelona prepare first move for Benfica striker Darwin Nunez

Benfica striker Darwin Nunez is on the radar of Barcelona.

Nunez only left Almeria last summer for Benfica, but it's emerged Barca have been following the Uruguay international since his time with Penarol.

The youngster has taken his game to a new level since moving to Portugal and has forced Barca to get serious about him.

Indeed, ESPN says Barca plan to make contact with Nunez's agents in the coming days to register their interest and alert the player that they're watching him. It's been claimed Barca coach Ronald Koeman has already approved a move.

A fortnight ago, Benfica coach Jorge Jesus declared: "We got him. We must not forget that he is a child, he is 21 years old, there is a lot about the game that he does not yet know. He will learn with me and Benfica.

"All this decision-making ability, finishing and speed...

"He was Benfica's most expensive signing, and when there is no pandemic he will be the most expensive sale. He will be a world-class player."
