Barcelona are ready to make an opening offer for Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen.
The London Evening Standard says Vertonghen, 27, has two years remaining on his contract and told Standard Sport in February he would make a decision over his future after the World Cup should Spurs not qualify for Europe's premier club competition.
Barcelona will still have money to spend despite the imminent £75m purchase of Luis Suarez from Liverpool because they are recouping £31.7m from Arsenal for Alexis Sanchez and have sold Cesc Fabregas to Chelsea for £32m.
The Catalan giants want to strengthen their defence and are preparing a £17.5m offer for Vertonghen, who joined for £9.6m from Ajax in 2012, after being impressed with his performances at the World Cup.
