Barcelona midfielder Pjanic denies Bosnia axe: Fake news!

Barcelona midfielder Miralem Pjanic denies being kicked out of the Bosnia squad this week.

Pjanic was reportedly banished from the Bosnia squad for disciplinary reasons after photos emerged of the midfielder smoking hookah and drinking alcohol the night before their match against Finland last Saturday, November 13.

Bosnia boss Ivaylo Petev spoke with Pjanic before sending him home, explaining the situation to him. The Barcelona player, who is currently on loan at Besiktas, accepted his coach's decision.

There was even a statement made by the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina which explained the decision, but this was deleted minutes later for unknown reasons.

The statement explained Pjanic's situation and also that of the coach, but it asked for understanding after the midfielder recognised his mistake.

Pjanic therefore missed Bosnia's match against Ukraine on Tuesday night, but it was a game that had no weight to it as they could not reach the World Cup or finish in the playoff spots after losing to Finland.

However, Pjanic has come out and denied the reports, issuing a message through his Instagram story.

"I officially deny the news. Not playing was a decision shared with the coach," it read.

"Btw [by the way] this is an old photo. FAKE NEWS."
