Barcelona goalkeeper Ter Stegen: Being captain would be great honour

Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen admits he'd welcome the club captaincy.

Ter Stegen has moved up in the hierarchy after the retirement of Gerard Pique.

He told Mundo Deportivo: "I have already said that wearing the Barça armband would be super special and the times I could do it I wore it with great pride. But in the end there are many personalities in the locker room.

"Now Piqué has retired who was a very important person for the locker room and it is difficult to compensate for this. But now it must be those who have more experience to fill this gap. Whether or not I am the captain, which would fill me with great pride, I ask all my teammates to take a step forward that it is not necessary to wear the armband but to be an important person in the locker room.

"Have we already talked about it? There is no need to talk about it now, we have three captains and there is no need right now. Only one will become one. We know we all need to improve to fill the void left by Gerard."
