Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi says Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique are his "idols"

The 17 year-old has quickly established himself as a first-choice at Barca after making his debut before Christmas.

Cubarsi told the club's website: "For the moment I'm facing things very calmly. My family and friends help me keep my feet on the ground, which is the fundamental thing. And this allows me to live with more serenity in everything that is happening to me.

"It's a real pride to wear the shirt of my life. But when I go on the pitch I don't think about my age. I feel like another player who wants to help the team and in this way I try to give everything. When you are a Barça player you always have that extra pressure because wearing this symbol and this shirt is the most important thing in the world. So we play with pressure, but I think this makes us better footballers.

"I have always said that my idols are Puyol and Piqué. When I was little I watched him play on TV and I really liked his style. I visualize their plays a lot. We are a very united group, a great team. But above all Ronald Araujo helps me a lot tactically and personally, and Joao Cancelo, who is one of the funniest members of the team, always brings joy and makes you happy.

"The Champions League? There are two main challenges: trying to win the Champions League, as always, and not giving up on the championship. There are still many games left. We are Barça and we must fight until the end. I have no doubt that we will do so. PSG? We can not wait. After so many years without reaching the quarterfinals, we will give our all.
