Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman wasn't on speaking terms with Miralem Pjanic ahead of his move to Besiktas.
The midfielder joined Besiktas on-loan for the season last week after it was made clear he wouldn't feature for Koeman this term.
Sport via Le 10 Sport says Koeman was never convinced by Pjanic after being left disappointed by his commitment in training.
Barca's coach was initially unimpressed by Pjanic's lack of intensity in training last season and nothing changed throughout the campaign.
For his part, Pjanic felt he needed to play regularly to find his best form, something Koeman agreed with, but there was no effort to bring him into the starting line-up.
In the end, the dialogue between the two became more and more distant until Pjanic's departure for Istanbul.
During his one season as a Barca player, Pjanic, 31, still managed 30 appearances, despite being at odds with his coach. His contract with Barca runs to 2024.
