Barcelona chiefs have been left frustrated in their attempts to secure Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta to a pre-contract.
With his deal to expire in June, the Spain defender is free to sign a pre-contract with any foreign team.
Barca chiefs were convinced they had reached terms with Azpilicueta's management team, but have now learned of a setback.
Mundo Deportivo says Barca have been informed Azpilicueta's contract includes a unilateral renewal option on Chelsea's side.
As such, Chelsea can trigger the clause to keep hold of their captain for another year even without his approval.
