Barcelona chief Alemany: Pique and Griezemann exits save us €90M

Barcelona chief Mateu Alemany has revealed how much the club has saved with Gerard Pique and Antoine Griezmann's departures.

Pique retired in November, while Griezmann was sold to Atletico Madrid.

Alemany said today: "The Griezmann and Piqué deals, who had a contract next year, mean €90m less in squad costs. We reduce that amount of wage bill with two players."

In addition, Alemany pointed out that the salary mass that the Blaugrana had was unsustainable in the medium and long term.

"There was an unsustainable salary mass because the reality is that we had a salary mass of €655m. The 'fair play' is the representation of a certain situation. We have made departures of players we did not have and we have lowered the salary mass, but Barça needs a competitive team."
