Bannan: Aston Villa pals rip into me over Scotland success

Barry Bannan admits he can't get big-headed over his success with Scotland while at Aston Villa.

Former Scotland boss Alex McLeish and the rest of the Villa squad made sure Bannan didn't get carried away with all the glory and headlines.

He said: "Obviously I seemed to do alright with Scotland and I went back to Villa with my confidence sky high.

"The boss had a few jokes about it. He was calling me Scotland's saviour and things like that which was funny. The boys were giving me it a bit too. It was just the usual.

"Gabby Agbonlahor was the worst of all but he's always on at me. I just make sure I give as good as I get.

"I was pleased to get the chance. It would be wrong to say I wouldn't be disappointed if I didn't start this time.

"Obviously you want to be out on the pitch playing but I'm also very aware it's the manager's decision.

"If I don't play then I'll be disappointed but I'll also keep it to myself, cheer the boys on and be ready for if and when I'm needed."
