Bale thrilled as Real Madrid win European Super Cup in Cardiff

Gareth Bale was delighted to combine with Cristiano Ronaldo and help Real Madrid to their European Super Cup win over Sevilla.

The Wales international was back on home turf at the Cardiff City Stadium and laid on the first goal for Ronaldo with a precise cross in the 30th minute.

The Champions League holders cruised to victory over the Europa League winners with Ronaldo adding a second early in the second half with a powerful finish.

Bale told Sky Sports: "We enjoy playing with each other. We showed last season that we both created goals for each other and scored a lot of goals.

"This season we hope to improve on last, we can still improve together, create a good partnership and hopefully we can do better this season."

He added: "I was trying my hardest - I had the chance at the end, but it wasn't meant to be. I created one which was good, and the most important thing was we won the trophy.

"It has been a bit strange being with Madrid in Wales, but it has been very enjoyable.

"We've had players coming back late from the World Cup, but pre-season is all about getting your fitness up, everyone seems to be up to the level.

"We're looking sharp and looking forward to the season."
