Azerbaijan boss Vogts hoping to assist USA's World Cup campaign

Azerbaijan national team boss Berti Vogts wants to do everything he can to help USA succeed at the 2014 World Cup.

The 67-year old German tactician was appointed as an advisor to US boss Juergen Klinsmann in March and will step up his role this week following the friendly between the two nations at Candlestick Park on Tuesday.

Vogts, who won the 1974 World Cup with Germany, says he is happy to be of assistance to his former pupil Klinsmann who helped Die Mannschaft to the 1994 European Championship title under the guidance of the current Azerbaijani manager.

"I'm not a coach," Vogts told reporters. "Maybe Jurgen [has] some questions for me about special things. I give him a clear answer. That is my part.

"The most important thing is this (opening World Cup) match against Ghana (on June 16).

"That's the most important thing. But first, the USA has to play against Azerbaijan."

Vogts added further: "First, I'm the national coach for Azerbaijan.

"We're very proud to play here against the United States. Azerbaijan is a very, very small country. All of Azerbaijan is looking forward for this match.

"It's a huge match for Azerbaijan, and I hope the match also will help the United States."
