AZ fullback Owen Wijndal welcomes Barcelona transfer rumours

Barcelona are eyeing AZ Alkmaar fullback Owen Wijndal ahead of the summer market.

AS via Voetbalzone says Barca are considering the left-back as cover for veteran defender Jordi Alba.

The Holland international has enjoyed an impressive Eredivisie campaign with AZ this season, with his form attracting the interest of Barca scouts.

Wijndal, who counts on Mino Raiola as his agent, is aware of the interest and admits he's flattered.

"It is special to read something like this," the 21-year-old Holland international told AD via Voetbalzone. "It flatters me, although I don't know if it is true.

"If it were really serious, my agent would have called me."

Despite the hesitancy, Wijndal admits knowing he's being linked with the Catalan giants is a positive.

He continued: "It is better for them to talk about you like that than negative. Yes, right? Of course this does something to me. I like it very much."

Recruited as a junior from HFC Haarlem, Wijndal has spent his entire pro career with AZ. This season, he has managed 43 appearances, scoring twice and producing six assists.

He has a contract with AZ to 2023. Wijndal also boasts seven caps with Holland.
