Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas is having Portuguese midfielder Vitor Gomes scouted.
The Mirror says the 23-year-old plays for little-known Rio Ave in Portugal and is versatile enough to operate as a defensive midfielder and at right-back - both areas Chelsea are looking to strengthen.
Blues boss Villas-Boas is looking for competition for Jose Bosingwa and may be able to get Gomes for a bargain £5million.
Gomes is represented by super-agent Jorge Mendes and it is believed Chelsea have already begun keeping a close eye on him.
