Aussie Kruse aiming for breakthrough with Dusseldorf

Australia striker Robbie Kruse is hoping to use his international success with the Socceroos to enhance his chances of first team football with new club Fortuna Dusseldorf. The 22-year-old Brisbane Roar product is having to learn patience at a club unbeaten thus far this season and seemingly on course for the Bundesliga.

"I haven't been starting for the team yet, but we are near the top and haven't lost yet and I can't complain. I'll bide my time and hopefully things will change," Kruse told The World Game.

"The good thing is I been getting picked for the national team … Holger (Osieck) has placed a lot of belief in me and I feel as though I've been doing fairly well when called on for the Socceroos.

"I really feeling a part of things right now after getting my chance at the Asian Cup and hopefully that will continue to be the case. "I think getting more game time with my club will certainly help. Holger would want me to be playing regularly but he obviously knows the league well in Germany and that it takes players a while to settle in.

"He understands what I am going through and I am sure he will back me.

"But there's a balance there and I obviously want to be getting picked every week for my club just like any other player.

Kruse has made five appearances off the bench for Fortuna but has yet to score.

"It is hard because while I am happy for the team, it's difficult watching from the bench," he added.

"It's going to be challenging next few months and I need to knuckle down and work hard I'm sure my chances will come - I just have to make sure I take them."
