Atletico Madrid striker Matheus Cunha in contact with Wolves and Aston Villa

Atletico Madrid striker Matheus Cunha is in contact with Wolves and Aston Villa.

The Brazilian attacker is set to leave Atletico Madrid this summer after struggling for form since joining the Spanish giants. Cunha joined Atletico in the summer of 2021 for €25million with an additional €5m in add-ons.

Villa and Wolves are both interested in signing Cunha, says Goal. They suggest that both West Midlands clubs have approached Cunha's representatives with the intention of making January's offers.

Wolves were believed to be favourites for Cunha's signature and manager Julen Lopetegui has even gone public on his interest in the player, plus his Atletico teammate Felipe. Specifically addressing Wolves' interest in Cunha, Lopetegui said: “We have several open options and he is one of them. In football, until you close the operations, they are all up in the air."

It is claimed that a double deal for Cunha and defender Felipe would cost Wolves €50million (£43m). Cunha is believed to be excited by the prospect of teaming up with Lopetegui, but there are doubts over whether Wolves will be willing to meet Atletico's demands.
