Atletico Madrid are stepping up their interest in Manchester City defender Nicolas Otamendi.

The Spanish giants have confirmed Diego Godin will leave them at the end of the current campaign - and they are in the market for a replacement, reports The Sun.

Otamendi is believed to figure on a list of possible signings after he fell down the pecking order at the Etihad.

Pep Guardiola admitted earlier this week there is no agreement in place regarding skipper Vincent Kompany to stay with City next season.

So there are question marks over the futures of two of his experienced defenders as the champions do their summer planning.
