Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodrigo de Paul says Argentina's players will live on in "eternity" after winning the World Cup.

De Paul was full of pride celebrating their World Cup triumph over France.

He said, "We are world champions, I don't know what to tell you. He couldn't visualise the image grabbing the cup. We are thousands of kilometres away and it is the maximum.

"We were born to suffer. He who is Argentine knows it. But with each situation we have been in, we have become bigger... Today is one of the most important days of my life.

"This is the key to eternity. We will be eternal because we did it. Today the flag is on top of the world for these 26 who left their lives. We are rightfully deserving."
