Atletico Madrid are in advanced talks to sign Hertha Berlin forward Matheus Cunha.
Sky Deutschland says a deal worth 30 million euros has been reached with Hertha Berlin to bring the 22-year-old to the Spanish capital.
Atletico had identified Fiorentina's Dusan Vlahovic as their priority signing up front, with Cunha as the back-up option.
When the deal to bring the Serbian striker to the club became impossible, they turned their attention to the Brazilian forward, who now looks set to join the club.
Cunha is not an out-and-out No.9 in the mould of Luis Suarez, having scored eight times for his club last season, but instead is more reminiscent of Antoine Griezmann. Nevertheless, he can play up top on his own if needs be, as he did for Brazil at the Olympics.
It could mean that in the matches Suarez doesn't play next season, Atletico could line up without a recognised No.9.
