Atletico Madrid capain Koke says they leave the Champions League with heads held high.

Wednesday night's 0-0 draw with Manchester City saw Atletico fall at the quarterfinal stage 1-0 on aggregate.

Koke said: "I'm proud of my teammates and all of our fans. We had so much desire and hunger in order to achieve what we've done so far in this competition and now we can be proud of what we tried to achieve here… but we couldn't quite reach the semi-finals.

"We changed absolutely nothing at half time strategically.

"We maybe played a little further forward, perhaps pressed higher, took a few risks – but the basic idea was exactly the same.

"We tried with everything we had until the very last seconds.

"We just lacked the goal we were trying for. We knew before the first game what might happen across the tie and what we had to do. It's easy to criticise us but we leave here proud of our efforts even though, in the end, it wasn't to be."
