Aston Villa star Nicolo Zaniolo is in Italy to discuss his position amid a betting investigation.

Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali has received a ten month ban from football for betting on his team AC Milan while playing for them.

Zaniolo, who was not in the most recent Italy squad, has been playing for Villa in the meantime.

A statement released by Villa last week, read: "Aston Villa can confirm Nicolo Zaniolo is assisting the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) and the relevant authorities' investigation into alleged illegal betting activity. The player has also met with senior officials at the club.

"Zaniolo is training as normal with the first-team squad and available for selection ahead of this weekend's match with West Ham United. No further comment will be made by the club during this ongoing process."

Fabrizio Romano added on Friday: "Aston Villa's Nicoló Zaniolo, now at the Federal Prosecutor's Office in Turin to explain his position about the gambling scandal in Italy."
