Aston Villa planning bumper spend on new striker

Aston Villa are planning another spending spree this summer.

The Mirror says Villa spent £150million last season after promotion as they secured their Premier League status in 17th on the final day.

They have since replaced sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch with Johan Lange after co-own Nassef Sawiris spoke openly of his huge ambitions.

Now Villa are preparing to spend again to bolster Dean Smith's squad to climb the table.

Targets include £22m-rated Werder Bremen winger Milot Rashica who was left out of their friendly with Eintracht Braunschweig on Sunday.

The Kosovo international has been capped 27 times by his country and scored eight goals and registered five assists in the Bundesliga in 2019-20.

Villa also intend to bring in another striker with Brazilian Wesley unlikely to be fit for the start of the season. His January replacement Mbwana Samatta only scored one top-flight goal.

Smith likes £20m-rated Ollie Watkins, 24, at his old club Brentford who scored 26 times and played every League game this term as the Bees lost in the Championship play-off final.

Liverpool's back-up forward Divock Origi, 25, is another option if he is allowed to leave.

He only made seven starts for Liverpool last season behind Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino and wants more action to press his claims for Belgium at next summer's Euros.
