Aston Villa plan to delay decision to sign Barcelona midfielder Coutinho

Aston Villa are willing to wait before dealing in on-loan Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho.

The Birmingham Mail says when the 29-year-old arrived from the Catalan capital on loan earlier this year, it was widely reported that there is a clause in the agreement that allows Villa to exercise an option to make the move permanent for €40 million (£33.3 million) this summer.

Coutinho has recaptured the form from the player's previous stint in the Premier League with Liverpool as of late, playing a starring role against Leeds United and Southampton in recent weeks.

It is now being reported by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano that the board is wanting to 'wait until May' before making a final call.

Romano adds that head coach Steven Gerrard 'would love to keep' the Brazil international and reaffirms that Barcelona are keen to sell that attacking midfielder with the ball firmly in Villa's court.
