Ashley Young has quickly impressed new Aston Villa teammates with his fitness levels.
Villa re-signed Young on a free transfer this summer from Inter Milan despite the ace turning 36 this month.
The Mirror says Young, who played for Villa from 2007-2011, made his debut as left-back in Wednesday's 4-0 friendly win at Walsall.
The ex-England and Manchester United ace, who has 39 caps, is now in line to start Saturday's friendly at Championship Stoke.
Matt Targett played every Premier League game as left-back last season as Villa came 11th.
It prompted England boss Gareth Southgate to consider Targett for an international call-up.
But Young looks set to give Targett stiff competition for his place this term with last term's left-back currently sidelined with a knock.
