Arsenal's Wenger indicates Schwarzer deal will not go ahead

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has indicated that any potential deal for a new goalkeeper may not occur during this transfer window. The Gunners have been heavily linked with new goalkeepers during the summer window, particularly Fulham stopper Mark Schwarzer, but Wenger's recent comments suggest that the North London club may not bring in a new gloveman at all.

"We are where we are - we have four great keepers and it is important we give confidence to them for the next game," Wenger said.

"I do not rule it out, but at the moment I say I am not in a position to sign anybody. At the moment, it is all dead."

Arsenal currently have Manuel Almunia, Lukasz Fabianski, Vito Mannone and Wojciech Szczesny on their books which may be enough for Wenger who has reportedly shown in interest in Schwarzer as well as Manchester City's Shay Given, Cagliari's Federico Marchetti and Ajax's Maarten Stekelenburg.
