The Daily Mail says the two strikers had to be pulled apart by Arsenal skipper William Gallas as frustrations boiled over during their first defeat against Spurs in eight years.

Bendtner had blood on his shirt and a lump and a gash on the bridge of his nose following the altercation and Adebayor was restrained from going down the tunnel at the end of the game.

Adebayor and Bendtner's clash has undermined Arsenal's team spirit, but Wenger claimed he knew nothing about the extraordinary incident.

The flashpoint came just seven minutes from the end of this gripping night and Adebayor appeared to headbutt Bendtner before Gallas and referee Howard Webb intervened.

Wenger claimed: "I don't know anything about it. Really I don't know."
