Arsenal midfielder Jorginho pleased with Italy's win against 'tough' Venezuela

Arsenal midfielder Jorginho was happy with Italy's win against Venezuela.

The Azzurri won the friendly in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday 2-1 thanks to Mateo Retegui's brace. Gigio Donnarumma also saved a penalty.

“It was a tough game. Many underestimated Venezuela, but they've lost just once in the last ten matches. They concede just once per game, and you can see they are well-organized tactically and very aggressive," Jorginho told Rai Sport.

“They have experienced players. They know how to play, when they must fall down and how. They know when they can provoke here and there to have an advantage. They are good at doing so and if somebody expected an easy game, they were wrong because we knew it would have been difficult."

He continued: “It means to represent our country. We must see these matches as an opportunity to grow as a group and as a team and never think it's just a friendly because every time you wear this shirt, you must be ready to play for something important."

On Genoa striker Retegui, Jorginho added: “I think he has an important quality in front of the goal. He has an eye for the goal and is starving to score.

“He is young and has room for improvement, which I think is the most exciting thing for those who love football. He can do even more; it only depends on him."
