Arsenal legend Wright slams Jol over Defoe treatment

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has blasted Tottenham boss Martin Jol for his treatment of striker Jermain Defoe.

Wright, in his column for The Sun, wrote: "Despite what's happened at White Hart Lane, I still feel Jol is the right man for the job and deserves a chance.

"Yet I was disgusted when I heard the manager has told Jermain he has to show his loyalty to Spurs by signing a new contract.

"For the last few years, Jol has stuck Jermain on the bench when he deserved a run in the team.

"I know Jermain was badly advised at the start of his career with Charlton and West Ham but since he's been at Spurs you've never heard him moaning and he's always got on with the job.

"We speak regularly and he's always talking about keeping his head down and waiting for his chance. Fair play to him - great attitude."
