Arsenal leading race to sign wantaway Roma defender Smalling

Arsenal are leading the race to sign Roma defender Chris Smalling.

Smalling is on-loan at Roma from Manchester United this season.

And Corriere dello Sport says the Gunners lead the race to sign Smalling from Manchester United.

The defender has impressed on loan at Roma this season and is enjoying life a the Stadio Olimpico.

However, the coronavirus crisis has reportedly prompted Smalling into wanting to return to his home country for 'personal motives'.

It's explained that, once the quarantine is over, the 30-year-old wants his agent to find him a new club within the Premier League.

And that means Arsenal are now at the front of the queue when it comes to signing the centre-back, who isn't in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's plans.
