Arsenal icon Graham: Wenger caught out not expanding transfer focus

Arsenal legend George Graham feels Arsene Wenger has allowed himself to become complacent regarding the transfer market. Graham fears that Wenger has fallen into a trap he knows from his own days in charge of the Gunners.

"I have a great knowledge of the lower leagues and the unfashionable clubs," Graham told the Sunday Mirror. "That enabled me to bring Lee Dixon, Steve Bould and Nigel Winterburn from places such as Stoke and Wimbledon.

"When Arsene came to the club, he knew the French market really well. In fact, he knew it better than anybody. That is how he brought Thierry Henry from Juventus reserves and Patrick Vieira from AC Milan.

"And he made them into world-class performers - as he did with Kolo Toure, Gael Clichy, Robert Pires, Emmanuel Petit, Marc Overmars and Freddie Ljungberg.

"But now other clubs have caught up and, if you want to know why Arsenal are not the force they were, it is because the players who have come in are not as good as the ones who left."
