Arsenal great Campbell wants chance to coach in England

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur great Sol Campbell is desperate to start coaching in English football.

The former centre-back, who was a part of the Gunners' great Invincibles side, joined Trinidad & Tobago as an assistant manager last month but his ultimate aim remains to coach in his country.

"International football has come first with Trinidad and it's a world that I know," said Campbell. "But I really want to get my teeth into something over here. I know English football.

"I just want to get in front of some owners and directors. Give me that chance. That's all I want as I know once I get that chance I can show them what I'm about.

"I would start at the bottom and that wouldn't bother me. Of course it would have to be the right club who are well run and ambitious.

"I'm not trying to run before you can walk as sometimes if you dive in too early, you can get burned.

"That's how you learn and improve, when you haven't got the best team but need to get that team up to standard and get the best out of players.

"I've had some conversations about coaching abroad but this is my bread and butter. So I will keep throwing my name into the hat and someone hopefully will say, 'We've gone down that road and it hasn't worked before, so what about Sol?'

"I need someone to really get behind me and back me as there's fire in my belly."

"I've worked with my wife and business and tried my hand at politics, but it always come back to football. It's in my blood. I'd rather wear a tracksuit than a suit and my past should not have put anyone off.

"I've got unfinished business in English football. That's where my focus remains and my phone is always on."
